What to see and do in Bhutan

A journey through Bhutan will take you to three of its most significant cities. Thimphu, the nation’s capital, combines a natural small-town feel with burgeoning innovation. Punakha sits in a breathtaking fertile valley at the junction of two sacred rivers. Commanding the river junction is the gorgeous Punakha Dzong, Bhutan's most impressive building. The charming town of Paro, home to Bhutan’s airport, is lined with colorfully painted wooden shop fronts and restaurants and boasts some of the nation’s best museums. Sitting above the Paro Valley is the iconic Tiger’s Nest, a 17th century temple built into towering cliffs ideal for adventurous treks.

The Paro airport has extremely limited international connectivity with direct flights offered to only a handful of Asian cities, most of which are in India. The most common routing is through Delhi (India), Kathmandu (Nepal) or Bangkok (Thailand). A usual Bhutan trip spans from 5 - 10 nights and includes Thimpu, Punakha and Paro. It is often combined with the surrounding countries with whom it shares flight service A combination of Bhutan with either India, Nepal or Thailand provides for a wonderfully diverse experience.
